To cause a vehicle to exceed its tyre limits of adhesion, exhibiting a lateral slip, resulting in an over-steer condition.
WHERE DID IT COME FROM?
Mastered by the Japanese and recently debuting to sold out crowds in the United States, “Drifting” has become a huge trend. The art of Drifting first became popular in Japan decades ago, originating simply as another high performance driving technique to make your way around the racetrack and/or mountain roads. Drifting has since become an event of it’s own and Drifting Competitions are popping up across the country.
HOW DO THEY DO IT?
Car control is key. Understanding the dynamics of your vehicle will help you master the art of drifting. You can send your car into a drift by inducing over steer into a corner, then controlling your car with the throttle while the rear is hung out. It takes practice for sure!
WHERE CAN I LEARN TO DRIFT?
DRIFTSKOOL offers drifting courses. Our courses are designed for even the most novice driver. Multiple training exercises will be used to educate drivers step by step in the art of drifting.
WHAT KIND OF CAR DO I NEED?
A proper drift needs to be done in a rear-wheel-drive car. Why? The power needs to come from the rear of the car while the front steers you through the turn. But, don’t worry, if you have a front-wheel drive car you still qualify to drive our high performance course. We will take you out for a drift ride at the end of the day!
